Four types of residency activities are available:
Writing Workshop (short term).Instruction in basic writing methods geared toward accessing a flow of images and disabling the internal censor. Students are guided through exercises which tap into subconscious resources. They are also taught to recognize what is truly interesting and unique in their writing rather than writing what they think should be interesting. This course can be structured either as a one-time class or as a weekly course over a period of time. Groups of 20 or fewer are best.
Collaborative Playwriting. In this intensive course, a small group of students is guided through the experience of collaboratively writing a short piece using methods developed by the Five Lesbian Brothers. This is a very exciting process for a group as it dynamically teaches that there is as much creative power in listening as there is in contributing one's own ideas. Groups of 10 or fewer are ideal. This course works best with daily sessions over a period of several weeks.
Personal Stories. This is a course for people particularly interested in accessing and shaping material based on their own lives and experiences. Through both writing and guided oral improvisation, students learn how to find the dynamic threads that make a story emotionally compelling rather than self-indulgent. Groups of 15 or fewer are best. This course can be formatted as a single session in which general concepts are explored, or it can be a full-length course in which students continue the development of their stories into solo pieces.
Post-Show Q & A. Any number of participants is possible.
